Sometimes I get notes like the following letter, which remind us that we need to do what we can to contribute toward ongoing prostate cancer research. In this case, another prostate cancer blogger and friend, Darren Ritch, has conquered prostate cancer to the point where he has now entered his first triathlon to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. I gave him a modest sum to help him reach his initial goal of $500. Please consider filling in the form listed beneath his personal letter below. Give from your pocket and your heart, so others can conquer prostate cancer too!
Hi Rabbi Ed!!
I hope you are doing well. I am getting emails from folks thanking for the reference to your book. Looks like a big hit! You did an awesome job and I am glad I am associated with it. You are doing such a great thing sharing your life with others. What a legacy you are leaving.
I wanted to send you the email below on my first Triathlon, raising money through Athletes for a cure for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. I would appreciate your consideration of a kind donation so you can help me reach and exceed my goal in raising money to help fight the disease that we have so graciously survived. I would also appreciate you forwarding to others you may know that might want to help me in my goals as well.
Sincerely,
Darren Ritch
Hello Friends!
As you may be aware last May I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery in June to remove my prostate. I am happy to report that the cancer had not spread and today I am cancer free. Because of this life changing event I decided to live life without barriers and I have been diligently training for the St Anthony's Meek and Mighty Triathlon on April 25th, 2009. In addition, I am committed to supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation in raising funds for prostate cancer research.
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting one in six men. Men are 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than women are to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Athletes for a Cure, a program of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, is a new fundraising and awareness program to assist individual athletes in their quest to raise money for better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation is the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research with a simple, yet urgent goal: to find better treatments and a cure for recurrent prostate cancer. I would appreciate your support and ask you click on this link http://athletes.kintera.org/other/darrenritch?faf=1&e=2193461926 to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Prostate Cancer Foundation .
Thanks!
Darren Ritch
